First butterfly

First butterfly magnify

They say that the year is going to be like the first butterfly one sees that year. I saw a peacock butterfly a week ago. I love peacocks, and the butterfly was beautiful. I think it means that I am going to have a year full of surprises.

I have been looking at crafts people make at Flickr. It’s very inspiring. I want to start making collages, art journals, books and such. And I want to get my own sheep so that I can start making my own felt and dye the wool, spin and knit and everything.

Plant dyeing gives the yarn colors that go wonderfully well together. It’s all soft, warm greens, yellows and oranges – at least here in Scandinavia. All the colors are some shade of yellow-green. And it goes beautifully with the natural wool colors, soft natural white, black and grey, which already have a warm, yellow tint, and the browns. I am not so fond of those colors, they are a bit too murky to me, but they are beautiful.

Shopping day!!!

Shopping day!!! magnify

I went to see the doctor, and I have a re-appointment on Friday… brr…
But I also went shopping and among other things bought me these pretty socks 🙂
I also bought a green pair of socks 🙂
There’s a picture in the photo album.

I couldn’t find a knitting store in whole Stockholm! I know I don’t get out often enough, but the store I used to use has been closed, and I was adviced to another shop – which, to be fair, has a large sortiment of yarns: Swedish, Norwegian and couple of other kinds of yarns, all kind of colors and materials, from pure acryl to soft and in my mind cheap alpaca. In very pretty colors 🙂 I think I’m going to get some of that a little later 🙂

But I couldn’t find anything I liked, so I bought white yarn, and thought of trying the Cool Aid dyeing. So next I headed to Gray’s… and guess what? THEY DIDN’T HAVE COOL AID IN ANY OTHER FLAVORS BUT ORANGE AND GRAPE!!! *blah*

So I figured out that Cool Aid is basically a darn lot of food coloring – so I tried it with food coloring and it worked! And I do have red food coloring 🙂 So I’m happy 🙂

Now I have one ball of pure white and one ball of the sweetest pink, and they will be the cutest white-pink-striped socks ever! I love the smell of wool when dyed 🙂
