The Reason for the Season

In Scandinavia there’s a tv-show every year, called “Yule Calendar” – A program with 24 episodes made for children, and they show one episode every day of December until Xmas Eve, which is The Xmas here in Scandinavia.

So – here’s my advent calendar 🙂 I hope to get here every day and write a little something to celebrate every day till Yule, Xmas, Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, or what ever you celebrate in late December.

Let’s start with the history of Xmas.

The reason for the season is not at all Jesus , the Jews didn’t even celebrate birthdays and Jesus wasn’t born in winter either… Midwinter day, Winter Solstice, has been an important day for the human kind all over the world, the birthday of light. The Xianity Xened the celebration, because we love Yule, Xmas, Midwinter Blot, Saturnalia – the Midwinter Feast, because it is a celebration of family, love, light and warmth in the dark and cold season. All the so called “Xian values” existed long before Jesus and Xianity, and I hate it when people claim common, general property to be theirs alone. I don’t care what other people do as long as they don’t steal, cheat and lie. So – when someone tells you that “the reason for the season is Jesus”, say “for you, perhaps.”
